市川準最沈靜內斂、大巧不工的傑作。根據山崎醫生的紀實文學改編而成，講述五位癌症病人最後的心路歷程。宛如「在天堂遇見的五個人」，市川準以如呼吸般自然永恆的長鏡頭，寬慰豁達卻又道盡人生無奈的溫柔觀點，讓影片在凝視生之喜悅的同時，也照見死之哀容，生命盡頭的不捨與放手，全都濃縮在片中一段段死生契闊、一幕幕悲歡離合、一格格膠卷顯影之中。

Dying at a Hospital is Ichikawa's most delicate masterpiece. In this film, he weaves together the lives of five people dying of cancer and the rhythm of everyday life. His camera theatrically captures the sad sterility of the hospital in which the varied yet powerful stories of the dying emerge in multiple voices and perspectives, and brings us into this profound experience while drawing us back to the life that they and we glimpse beyond the windows.
