Max是獨居紐約的華裔青年，忽有夢，在一陌生城市邂逅一中國女孩艾玲，Max不明白自己何以在夢中神采飛揚還講流利普通話。在夢中最後他愛上了她，艾玲卻驚惶得跑走，從此Max無端失戀，每晚入夢四處奔跑找不到艾玲。一次，Max被派往上海公幹，在回程飛機上發現照相館錯給了他的照片是艾玲的生活照，他驚駭夢中情人是真有其人…
Max is an American-born Chinese living in New York. He begins to dream of a Chinese girl Ailin in an unknown city. Together they witness her boyfriend falling to his death from a high-rise building. The recurring dream becomes an illusionary and passionate journey for Max. He falls in love with this sad and quiet girl, surprising her when he kisses her. Frightened, she runs away and disappears totally from his dream…
