改編自德國傷痕文學家略斯特（Erich Loest）的同名小說。位於萊比錫的聖尼可拉教堂，1989年發動著名的「星期一示威」，最後導致共黨政權垮台。本片描述一個家庭被示威運動與「史塔西」兩股力量拉扯、撕裂的故事，重現了東德人民面對武裝鎮壓威脅，以蠟燭與祈禱傳達和平非暴力的訊息，終於突破鐵幕、走向自由的歷史關鍵時刻。

St. Nicholas Church is the story of a family in Leipzig during the two years of unrest starting in 1988 that culminated in the Monday Demonstrations in the autumn of 1989. Frank Beyer has made a grippingly realistic film of Erich Loest’s novel about the dramatic events in the final days of the German Democratic Republic.
