一九三○年代，中國武術之都佛山的武風頂盛，葉問習得一身武藝但為人低調。以金山找爲首的北方武師，決意挑戰葉問，葉問終以詠春拳大勝金山找。經此一役，佛山掀起了熾盛的詠春熱潮。中日戰爭爆發，佛山淪陷。日本將軍三蒲是一名武痴，要求葉問向日軍傳授中國武術。葉問不甘作漢奸，且欲替中國人挽回尊嚴，遂公然挑戰三蒲。
It is 1930s Foshan and the mood is one of wushu, wushu and more wushu. This film is an adaptation of the life story of Ip Man, the grandmaster of the Wing Chun style of martial arts and master of martial arts film superstar Bruce Lee.
